Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin not worried about Joey Porter Jr’s penalties

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals combined for the most points scored in a game this season in a 44-38 win for Pittsburgh. The Steelers’ defense had some struggles in the run game early on and had several penalties that gave big yardage to the Bengals. Specifically, Joey Porter Jr. had six penalties, four of which were accepted. Mike Tomlin was asked about this, but ensured that he wasn’t concerned about it.

Tomlin emphasized that walking the tightrope of playing elite receivers with physicality is one that both he and Porter are willing to walk.

“When we play Shaq, we’re gonna use our fouls,” Tomlin said.

Porter has always been known as a physical and handsy cornerback going back to his days at Penn State. And while he has become one of the best young cornerbacks in the NFL, his penalties have been a growing issue. So while it’s great that Tomlin doesn’t seem worried about it, it is something that does need addressing.
