It might have taken a week longer than most anticipated, but rookie OT Troy Fautanu’s NFL debut was worth the wait.

In a 13-6 win over the Denver Broncos, Fautanu didn’t allow a single pressure on 29 pass snaps. We didn’t hear much chatter about him during the game, which is generally a great sign for an offensive lineman.

Fautanu suffered a sprained MCL in the black and gold’s preseason opener against the Houston Texans. Although he dressed in their week one victory over the Atlanta Falcons, unsurprisingly he didn’t see the field.

There’s been a bit of a revolving door on the line just two weeks into the season. Much maligned OT Broderick Jones, who was rotating with Fautanu, was benched in the first quarter after committing three penalties on the same drive. The costliest was a hold that brought back an eye-popping 43-yard reception from Justin Fields to George Pickens. This will probably be one of the best plays that doesn’t count all season.

If there’s solace to come out of Jones’ erratic play, it’s the fact that Fautanu looked more than capable in a very hostile environment in his first action.

We’ll see what happens with the rotation when Pittsburgh attempts to stay undefeated against the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday, but it’s safe to assume that Fautanu is well on his way to securing one of the bookends.
