Speculation for the 2025 NFL Draft continues to build as this year’s rendition from Green Bay, Wisconsin looms ever closer.
Projecting who Pittsburgh will take at the 21st spot in this year's first round seems impossible, with mock drafts changing daily. With the NFL combine beginning this week, the anticipation for teams reaches a new height. Some familiar names continue to headline mocks, while new projections may surprise you. With numerous holes on both sides of the ball, here is what the media projects in the latest Pittsburgh Steelers mock draft round-up.
Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com
The Steelers spent the past two drafts beefing up their offensive line. Now they land a top-five player in the class to run behind it.
Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
Matt Rooney, Bleacher Nation
This would be a little out-of-character pick for Pittsburgh, which usually likes to build from the inside out. However, Luther Burden III had an outstanding career at Missouri and is a big play waiting to happen. He can come in on day one, significantly impact the Steelers’ offense, and be a weapon for whoever is playing QB in the Steel City next season.
Garrett Podell, CBS Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers need another threat at wide receiver outside of George Pickens, and Luther Burden III is an off-the-charts athlete at the position. He can leap well for contested catches and explode into open space for tons of yards after the catch underneath. Whoever the quarterback of the Steelers is in 2025 will be delighted with this pick.
Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
Dalton Wasserman, PFF
Steelers wide receivers posted the second-worst PFF receiving grade in the league last season on targets under 20 air yards. A reliable route runner like Egbuka would at least somewhat remedy that problem, giving Pittsburgh someone who can reliably move the chains without the offense always needing to air it out.
Gennaro Filice, NFL.com
My favorite prospect-team pairing in this entire rundown. It just feels SO right! George Pickens is wildly talented, but he’s also a true wild card. Complementing the mercurial ball-winner with a polished chain-mover could be just what the doctor ordered for Pittsburgh’s alarmingly thin WR corps. Having just served as a team captain for the national champion Buckeyes, Egbuka’s a reliable receiver whose professionalism earns as much praise as his play.
Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
Tyler Sullivan, CBS Sports
Will Johnson is a smooth athlete who stays in phase up the boundary without grabbing his opponent. He trusts his eyes and technique as though he is running the route for the receiver. Johnson has a high missed tackle rate each of the past two seasons as a result of not coming to balance in space. The junior could use more exposure to jamming opposing receivers at the line of scrimmage, but he drives hard out of the top of his drop. Johnson displays good spatial awareness in zone coverage.
Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss
Matt Williamson, Steelers.com
A young talented defensive lineman to learn his trade from Cameron Heyward seems like an ideal succession plan for the Steelers.
Mike Prisuta, Steelers.com
It would be tempting to take Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka in this scenario, very tempting. But Nolen has maintained he’s the next Aaron Donald. Sold.
Defensive line seems to be an increasingly popular positional selection in Round 1 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, despite the dire needs at wide receiver.
