Jets poach Steelers ILB coach Aaron Curry

The Pittsburgh Steelers incurred their first loss of the 2025 coaching cycle Friday, as the New York Jets hired now former inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry as their new LB coach, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported.

The Jets cleaned house this season, firing GM Joe Douglas and HC Robert Saleh mid-season, moving forward with former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach and former Denver Broncos Assistant GM Darren Mougey as general manager.

Curry has spent the last two seasons with the Steelers as the inside linebackers coach working under defensive coordinator Teryl Austin following a four-year stint working with the Seattle Seahawks in a variety of assistant roles.

Though the Steelers struggled at inside linebacker in 2023, it’s difficult to make the argument that it was due to coaching specifically, as the team was ravished with injury last season. Among those with season-ending injuries were Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander, which dwindled the rotation down to Elandon Roberts, Mykal Walker, Myles Jack and Mark Robinson by the time the playoffs came.

This season was different, with improved depth at ILB significantly through the offseason, with the additions of Patrick Queen in free agency and rookie Payton Wilson in the draft.

Curry will now work under new Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, while Pittsburgh must comb through the rest of the ranks in this hiring cycle to fill out their new ILB coaching vacancy.
