The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the offseason expecting Justin Fields or Russell Wilson to be their 2025 quarterback. However, Fields decided to sign with the New York Jets and it appears Pittsburgh would rather move on from Wilson, considering they didn’t sign him as soon as Fields was off the market.
Fields opened up about his decision to leave Pittsburgh and join the Jets, noting several big factors that helped him make his decision.
“I think number one, Coach Glenn,” Fields said. “I played against him early in my career. I know how passionate he is about the game. The way he coaches, the way his players play. So I think that was the biggest thing for me.”
Fields adds that the opportunity to help make the Jets a winner was a big factor,
“When you win here, there’s no better place to win,” Fields said. “All those reasons, all those characteristics are ultimately the reason I ended up here.”
The Steelers remain in quarterback limbo, as they wait for Aaron Rodgers's decision. They signed Mason Rudolph as a hopeful backup to the four-time MVP, but would likely roll with their former third-round pick if Rodgers ends up elsewhere.
