The NFL players’ top-100 ranking is due later this summer, but in the meantime, CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco released his annual “Top 100 players” list ahead of the 2025 season.
Prisco believes the Steelers currently have two of the top 100 players in the league, and it’s probably who you expect: outside linebacker T.J. Watt (No. 11) and defensive lineman Cam Heyward (No. 37).
It’s a downtick from 2024, where Prisco included three Steelers: Watt (No. 5), George Pickens (No. 68), and Minkah Fitzpatrick (No. 71). Heyward wasn’t included, but now-Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (No. 20) was. (D.K. Metcalf was unranked in both 2024 and 2025 — not even an honorable mention).
How many “top 100” players are on the Steelers roster?
My initial reaction was that two players felt a little low, but look at the top-100 list — there are simply a lot of good players in the NFL. In fact, you could even argue T.J. Watt being in the fringe top 10 after an 11.5-sack season feels a bit generous. Still, he and Heyward undoubtedly belong in the top half of the ranking.
If there’s one missing Steeler, it’s probably kicker Chris Boswell. If we’re just looking at how good these athletes are at their respective jobs, he definitely belongs among the elite. But Prisco didn’t include any specialists in his list, so it’s not a particularly ugly exclusion even if Boswell was arguably the top kicker in the league last season.
Coming off his rookie season, Zach Frazier doesn’t yet have the name recognition as one of the top centers in the NFL, but he could find himself on a top-100 list in the near future if his career continues on the trajectory he set in his first season.
