NFL insider ‘fully expects’ Steelers to trade for close friend of Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially agreed to terms with quarterback Aaron Rodgers after months of waiting and speculation.

With that in mind, the Steelers still need to complete the cast of weapons around the four-time MVP, and one name several people have circled is wide receiver Allen Lazard. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk went so far to say that he “fully expects” the Steelers to trade for the veteran receiver to reunite the long-time teammates for the 2025 season.

“I fully expect that, sooner than later, and no later than training camp, the Steelers will trade for Jets receiver Allen Lazard,” Florio said. “Lazard, I think, is a perfect complement because when he’s with Rodgers, he plays really well.”

Lazard has been a teammate of Rodgers since 2018 when he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State. When Rodgers was traded to the Jets in 2023, Lazard signed with New York as a free agent that offseason. In 2024, he had 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns. For his career, he has 229 receptions and 27 touchdowns.

Considering the fact that the Steelers still need a quality No. 2 receiver, Lazard would actually be a good acquisition, and he wouldn’t be expensive in terms of trade compensation. A late-day-three pick should get the job done, and they could probably go without trading a 2026 pick at all. A 2027 sixth-round pick should be able to get the job done.
