Pittsburgh Steelers hosting notable free agent wide receiver to visit

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a need at wide receiver for the second straight offseason. After acquiring DK Metcalf in March, the Steelers traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May. This leaves a glaring hole at WR2 on the depth chart, and Pittsburgh has been looking around to try to fill that void. They reportedly called the Saints about potentially acquiring Chris Olave, but that never went anywhere. They now turn their attention to the free agent market.

According to Adam Schefter, the Steelers are hosting former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Gabe Davis to a visit on Wednesday. Davis was released by the Jaguars earlier this offseason after signing a three-year deal with Jacksonville in 2024. He was the No. 2 wideout in Buffalo for Josh Allen opposite Stefon Diggs from 2020-23.

Davis’ shining moment came in the infamous 13-second game in the 2022 divisional round game against the Kansas City Chiefs where he caught four touchdown passes in the Bills’ heartbreaking loss. His best year came in 2022 when he caught 48 passes for 836 yards and seven scores.

Davis would fit in perfectly with what Arthur Smith wants to do offensively, as he is a big-bodied wideout at 6-foot-5, can catch deep balls, and is a tremendous run blocker. In terms of fit, Davis is the best free-agent wideout Pittsburgh could plug into their offense.
