Pittsburgh Steelers offseason: Dates for rookie minicamp, OTAs, and more

Following the 2025 NFL Draft, the Steelers’ main focus has switched from building its roster to preparing it for the upcoming season. With the NFL schedule release coming on May 14, what dates should Steelers fans know ahead of Week 1?

It’s worth noting that players have been allowed to voluntarily work out at the Steelers facility since April 21, even if it isn’t an official event as only limited training can take place.

Rookie minicamp – May 9-11

The date for Steelers’ rookie minicamp hasn't been officially announced yet, but the news was unexpectedly broken when the Slippery Rock Athletics Twitter/X account announced defensive back Eddie Faulkner IV (also the son of the Steelers running backs coach Eddie Faulkner) had been invited to Steelers rookie minicamp from May 9-11.

The date checks out, as it falls into one of the two rookie minicamp time slots permitted by the NFL.

In rookie minicamp, teams get three 10-hour days to give rookies a proper introduction to the NFL, running them through drills and strength and conditioning exercises. This is also when rookies are fitted for their equipment, per ESPN.

Rookie minicamps are also when NFL teams invite players not drafted, such as Faulkner IV, to try out for the 90-man offseason roster. Most of these tryouts are undrafted free agents, but teams are also allowed to bring in five veteran tryouts.

Per the Pro Football Writers of America, local media must be allowed access to at least one day of rookie minicamp.

Organized team activities (OTAs) – May 27 – June 12

Per Steelers.com, the 2025 OTA schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, May 27
Wednesday, May 28
Thursday, May 29
Tuesday, June 3
Wednesday, June 4
Thursday, June 5

OTAs are optional for players.

Per the PFWA, local media must be allowed access to at least one of every three OTAs.

Steelers mandatory minicamp:

Tuesday, June 10 – Day 1
Wednesday, June 11 – Day 2
Thursday, June 12 – Day 3

OTAs mark Phase Three of the NFL offseason, where teams still aren’t allowed to hold contact practices, but offense vs. defense drills are permitted.

Per the PFWA, local media must be allowed access to mandatory minicamp.

Steelers training camp – starting in July

The official dates for the Steelers’ 2025 training camp haven’t been announced yet, but there’s a lot we know already: Training camp will be held at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe once again, and it will begin sometime in July.

For reference, in 2024 the Steelers’ training camp dates were from July 24 – Aug. 15

Fans and media are allowed access to most practices, including an annual “Friday Night Lights” practice in Latrobe Memorial Stadium.

In training camp, teams are allowed to begin some contact practices as they ramp up for the season.

NFL preseason – July 31

The Steelers won’t be playing on this date – their preseason schedule hasn't been released yet – but July 31 marks the annual Hall of Fame game. This year’s preseason showcase will feature the Lions and the Chargers.

The following week, the preseason will begin for the rest of the NFL, including the Steelers. Exact dates and matchups will be announced during the schedule release.
