Pittsburgh Steelers rising star named one of top players in PFF rankings

I’d say that Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher Nick Herbig is one of the most underrated players in the NFL, but he’s slowly but surely becoming more of a household name as he continues to become one of the best pure pass rushers in the NFL.

Herbig had 5.5 sacks in 13 games last season, and he saw his snap count jump up from 17 percent to 50 percent, even while missing four games. His production is getting more attention, as Herbig was named the No. 32 pass rusher in the NFL in PFF’s Top 32 edge rusher rankings.

“No player embodied the ‘pass-rushing specialist’ role better than Herbig in 2024,” Ryan Smith writes. “The second-year pro was elite in limited snaps, earning a 91.5 PFF pass-rush grade — fourth among 109 qualifying edge defenders. However, he struggled against the run, grading out at 48.2 (101st), and will need to improve in that area to move up this list next season.”

Herbig will likely continue to see a growth in his snap counts, and the Steelers would be smart to get the third-year man on the field with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith at the same time more often, rather than compromising one for the other.
