Pittsburgh Steelers Will Howard praises new mentor Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers to a one-year contract just days before mandatory mini-camp. And while they signed a talented quarterback to help get them over their playoff woes, they also signed a veteran who was ready to give back to the young quarterbacks working with him.

After the final practice of mini-camp, quarterback Will Howard told reporters just how much Rodgers has already helped him.

“When he [approaches me for advice], he’s like, ‘I don’t want to overstep,’” Howard said. “I’m like, ‘dude, please, by all means, tell me whatever you think.’”

Will Howard says Aaron Rodgers has been a great mentor to him over the course of this week. Rodgers has been giving Howard tips:

Howard added that Rodgers asked him a few questions during the team meeting.

“There are some new things we threw in,” Howard said. “And he was asking me, ‘what’s this again?’ And I’m telling him. And I’m like, ‘what is going on? This is crazy. I’m telling Aaron Rodgers what this is.’”

Rodgers asked Howard some questions during a meeting on his first day

Howard: “Obviously, there are some new things we threw in & he was asking me, ‘what’s this again?’ and I’m telling him. And I’m like, ‘what is going on? This is crazy. I’m telling Aaron Rodgers what this is.’”

Rodgers spoke highly of Howard after his first practice with the Steelers, saying he would help the rookie sixth-round pick as much as he could.

“Will’s a good kid,” Rodgers said. “Thought he looked good today… I’m gonna be with him every single day and every single meeting… I’m gonna help him out as much as I can.”

It’s clear the 21-year veteran and the rookie have developed a good relationship early on in Rodgers’ tenure with the Steelers, which is great in terms of the Steelers also getting a mentor and a reliable presence on top of a good quarterback.
