Report: Aaron Rodgers, Steelers WR DK Metcalf had throwing session

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been very patient in waiting for Aaron Rodgers to decide whether or not he would join them for the 2025 season. That said, if he wants to play, he currently has no other options. The New York Giants signed former Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, and the Minnesota Vikings have all but decided J.J. McCarthy is their guy.

The Steelers and Rodgers had a meeting at the team facility, which seemed to be another step in Rodgers joining Pittsburgh. And now, another step seems to have been taken. According to Mike Garafolo, Rodgers and Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf had a throwing session over the weekend at UCLA. Garafolo adds that Rodgers is “checking all the boxes” as he continues to evaluate what’s next.

For all intents and purposes, it continues to feel like a matter of when not if Rodgers signs. The Steelers are the only remaining spot that make any sense for him if he wants a chance to win. Even the most down-on-the-franchise Steelers fans recognize he has a better chance to make a playoff run with the Steelers than in Cleveland or New York before Wilson landed with the Giants. He’ll take his time, and the Steelers are fine with that – likely because they are extremely confident he’ll end up in Pittsburgh.
