Should Pittsburgh Steelers pursue Aaron Rodgers in 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost three straight and are hoping to end that skid before the playoffs start in less than two weeks. Should the Steelers win and lock up the No. 5 seed, they’d travel to Houston to face the Texans. If they win and get some surprising help from the Cleveland Browns, they’d host the Los Angeles Chargers.

Regardless of who they play, though, the pressure is as high as it’s ever been for Mike Tomlin and co. to win a playoff game, something they haven’t done since the 2016 season. And should the Steelers fail to do so again, NBC’s Mike Florio suggests that they ditch both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and opt to bring in Aaron Rodgers.

“When Pittsburgh added Wilson and Justin Fields in the offseason, many believed that one would emerge as the starter after 2024,” Florio writes. “With both on expiring contracts, there’s always been a chance neither will be back. If/when Rodgers is released by the Jets, why wouldn’t the Steelers consider adding him? Several years ago, Rodgers and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin exchanged playful glances. That made Rodgers a consideration for the Steelers when he left Green Bay. At the time, the Steelers were entering their second season with Kenny Pickett. Entering 2025, the planets could line up to bring Rodgers to Pittsburgh.”

We all know about the mutual respect between Rodgers and Mike Tomlin, as the former goes out of his way to acknowledge the Steelers’ head coach on a somewhat frequent basis. And while many would wince at the idea of adding Rodgers due to his lackluster season, we saw two quarterbacks brought in who struggled elsewhere and played good football in 2025 – why couldn’t the same be said about a four-time NFL MVP in the right situation?
