Social media reacts to Aaron Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh Steelers

In what appeared to be a never-ending saga, Aaron Rodgers has announced he will join the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 41-year-old comes to the steel city on a one-year deal with a value yet to be known at the time of writing.

While Omar Khan and the Steelers were in hot pursuit all offseason, Rodgers off-field concerns kept the veteran from a decision. Now, just a week before mini-camp kicks off in Pittsburgh, the 6-foot-2 QB will make them wait no longer.

Fans React to Rodgers One-Year Deal Announcement

As previously mentioned, the term announcement comes with no monetary disclosure just yet. Regardless, Rodgers will be a Steeler pending the completion of his physical.

The news comes with a hilarious amount of criticism and praise. Some fans are ecstatic that the Steelers now have a solidified starting quarterback, while others believe Rodgers is well past his prime.

“Happy Gilmore” character Shooter McGavin poked fun at at the signing via his X account.

The video comes from a clip in the film “Grandma’s Boy,” and pokes fun at the spiritual side of Rodgers. Like several other athletes, Rodgers recently began the practice of taking ayahuasca, a brew made from hallucinogenic ingredients. In the clip, actor Kevin Nealon is seen discussing energy and dreams, two things that draw comparisons to the practices of ayahuasca.

The jokes did not stop there as plenty more doubt rained down on the 20-year pro.

With question marks regarding his ability, the sports app “Sleeper,” got involved in the jokes. This post intends to display the lack of concern for other NFL clubs after the signing was announced.

Another fan sees the signing as delaying the inevitable. Which in their opinion, is another nine or 10 win season in Pittsburgh.

The post comes in complaint that the Steelers' recent mediocracy in terms of postseason performance will continue.

Despite plenty of hate, there are some fans excited and intrigued by the move.

This fan sees the Steelers finally conquer their first-round woes as Rodgers leads the team to the second round for the first time in eight years.

Another X account posted expressing their excitement for a “real” quarterback.

With a revolving door at QB since Ben Roethlisberger, is it possible Pittsburgh finds stabilization in Rodgers for a year or two?

Whether he provides stabilization or not, Rodgers is seemingly in the right place. “Pardon My Take” revisited an interview with Rodgers where the crew spoke with the longtime Green Bay Packer on Pittsburgh and the culture that comes with it.

Dan Katz asks Rodgers what the word grit means to him. To which Rodgers replies, “Means you’re from Pittsburgh.” The newest Steeler goes on to discuss all the people he has been around in the league who hail from Pittsburgh.

Rodgers continued, “All they talk about is toughness man, that’s Pittsburgh grit.”

It will be interesting to see how much more grit Rodgers can provide in his opening year with the club. The future Hall of Famer will make his Steelers debut against his former team Week One as Pittsburgh heads to New York to face the Jets. The duel kicks off from MetLife Stadium Sunday September 7th, at 1 P.M. EST.
