Steelers draft Washington linebacker Carson Bruener in seventh round

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to add to their defense in the 2025 NFL Draft. With their first seventh-round pick, the Steelers selected Washington linebacker Carson Bruener.

Bruener had an astounding 104 tackles in 2024, as well as three interceptions with the Huskies. With the Steelers’ current off-ball linebacker corps consisting of Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, Cole Holcomb, and Mark Robinson, Bruener could look to land that fourth spot in the rotation during preseason and have a spot as a corps special teamer.

Pittsburgh’s draft is coming to an end, and they very clearly had one goal in mind- get better in the front seven to be better equipped to stop the run. Should the Steelers be able to slow down the ground attack of the top rushing teams in the league, they’ll be better off than they were in January when Derrick Henry was running all over them.
