Steelers news: Pittsburgh begins end of season roster moves

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ season officially ended on Saturday with a 28-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Now, the offseason is officially upon us, and that means plenty of roster moves as the Steelers prepare their 90-man roster ahead of the summer.

The Steelers got a head start on that process Monday. Offensive tackle Doug Nester signed a reserve/future contract with Pittsburgh for 2025, per an announcement by his agent.

The Pittsburgh Steelers just signed my client Doug Nester (OT, West Virginia) to a new contract for 2025. Signed with the Vikings after last year's draft but ended up spending the entire season on Pittsburgh's psquad.

Nester, a teammate of Zach Frazier’s at West Virginia, went undrafted in 2024 before signing with the Minnesota Vikings, but was later released. The 6’6, 306-pound lineman spent the season on the Steelers’ practice squad.

Nester started 52 games in college and didn’t allow a single sack in his final season. Over his career at Virginia Tech and later West Virginia, he started games at right guard before switching to right tackle in 2023.

Also on Monday, the Steelers adjusted outside linebacker Julius Welschof’s status from practice squad to international practice squad player.
