Steelers sign 7th-round picks to rookie contracts

Following the first day of rookie minicamp, the Steelers officially have two members of their 2025 rookie class under contract, the team announced Friday, May 9.

Seventh-rounders Carson Bruener (linebacker, Washington) and Donte Kent (cornerback/punt returner, Central Michigan) have signed four-year deals with the team.

The financial details have yet to be announced.

Bruener, the son of former Steelers tight end and current scout Mark Bruener, played four years in college, logging 305 career tackles. He also brings extensive special teams experience, which will come in handy as a Day 3 pick trying to make the roster.

Kent is also an experienced defender, playing five years at Central Michigan. He reportedly ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at his pro day, showing off some athletic upside. At 5’10, 189 pounds, he has a compact build and has experience on special teams coverage. He also returned 16 punts for 217 yards and a touchdown in 2024.

With Bruener and Kent under contract, the Steelers are left with five of their seven draft picks left to be signed.
