The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another body to their running back room. Pittsburgh is signing veteran running back Trey Sermon to a one-year deal, per Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports. Sermon had a tryout with the Steelers during rookie minicamp.

The Ohio State product had 258 yards and two touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts over the last two seasons. Sermon was drafted in the third round by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft. He had 167 yards and one touchdown as a rookie, before going to Philadephia in 2022. Over four years, Sermon has 505 yards while averaging 3.8 yards per carry and five touchdowns.

With Kaleb Johnson and Jaylen Warren serving as the team’s top two running backs, as well as Kenneth Gainwell being in the rotation, Sermon will be a good reserve who will play special teams. With Cordarrelle Patterson still on the roster, this could be hinting at a departure between Pittsburgh and the veteran running back/kick returner.
